Hurricane Hinge Orientation

Postby KenC » Sun Jan 09, 2011 12:09 am

Hi all,

Quick question,

Is the orientation for the hinge shown in my photo below correct, I just got this from Grant today ( thanks Grant) and want to make sure I'm installing it the correct way. Also what is best to use between the bottom of the hinge and the spar, ply/ roof ? I'm thinking stainless steel screws and butyl tape or is something else better and will prevent water leakage / damage. Like locktite PL 2000 or something similar.

Yep ... you've got it backwards, Ken!

Also, I use RV Putty Tape (black of grey) under the body side of the hinge and siliconized caulk under the hatch side. If you use stainless steel screws, pre-install with zinc-plated screws 1/4" shorter than your desired full length, then go back and replace with the ss screws ... ss screws won't drive start-to-finish without stripping the head or snapping off.

Continued Good Luck, and as always ...

CHEERS!
