Hi All,

I'm about ready to cut my doors out and wonder if anyone has used this zip bit attached to the router with good results or shoud I stick with a jigsaw.

I'll cut my outside door panels first from my outside wall, then glue up my inside walls then cut those door panels out and build the doors

I can't say anything about the zip bit but I cut my doors with a 1/4" spiral carbide bit and router with template and bushing.

In the picture, I didn't cut full thickness at the red marks. I left the door "connected" so I could skin the inside of the wall and to keep from having to worry about the door warping.

A 1/4" gap is too much, but after I lined the door and jamb with 1/16" thick aluminum molding, it came out about right.

Since my door is square, I cut my door out on the waste side with a jig saw and then used a straight edge and a router with a flush trim bit and took out the rest of the material necessary for the trim etc. It turned out really well. ---- I marked my door dimensions on the plywood (26"x36") and then marked another set of dimensions 1/4" away from the 1st one. I then cut it out in the waste between the lines and then used a straight edge and a router with a flush trim bit on both the door and the wall edges to take out the rest of the material for the trim. I thought I should explain this post alittle better. :)

I used a skill saw to plunge cut the straight edges of the door then used a jig saw to cut the radius corners.

Hi,

Thanks for everyones input, I went with the jigsaw and cleaned up the edges with a router. I was afraid the zip bit would leave to much of a gap between the door edge and the wall.
