Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I'm starting to attach my aluminum trim. I'm putting on a healthy bead of silicone caulk under the trim and screwing it down. What did you guys do to clean off the excess silicone? Did you let it dry and then clean off the excess, or did you clean it off when it was wet?


I applied one piece of trim so far. I let the caulk dry then I tried to remove the excess by cutting along the trim with a razor knife and peeling the excess silicone off. This did not work that great. A fair amount of silicone "residue" still remains.

Any suggestions for easy clean up????

Easy clean-up while the caulk is still wet: acetone.
After it is cured, trim with a razor, peel away excess, then use a dry towel and rub off the residue. The friction of a dry towel will get most all of it. Clean up any remaining film with acetone. On porous surfaces you probably won't get all of it - just the nature of silicone. Dave

wipe off as much as you can before it drys
then after it drys trim the rest and clean off
any residue with denatured alcohol
or try gas
but dont have a smoke
