Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Until last week I never heard of a Teardrop trailer.I saw an ad for plans in Wood magazine and started thinking thats what I need to pull behind my PT Criuser.Is there anyone in the Toronto area thats building or has build a TD.I would like to see one before I committed myseft to building one.I'am looking forward to hearing from someone.Thanks

I'm in Sudbury, haven't started yet but have plans, parts etc piling up. I think SHIL is in TO, and built his own. You can chech thru the memberlist at the top.

His TD is also in the Hall of Fame, upper left corner. Just click on the link to open it up to search thru member's TD's

...Greg, Welcome to the house of insan...er the T&TTT board. If you have caught TD fever I must warn you that it is almost impossible to shake. If you go thru the Hall of Fame, the albums and Gage's ITG photo's among others, you will see that TD's and TTT's come in a myriad of shapes, sizes and styles. This board is comprised of people dedicated to T&TTT's and we are all defintely members of the asylum, who just love to build, camp and play with our little trailers. If you get hooked, most all of your questions have been asked and answered on this board so take some time to read thru past posts and then ask your questions here, all we ask in return for massive help and advice is for you to post pictures of your work...we really like pics

Greg,
I am in the Kitchener/Waterloo area and am in the process of building one to pull behind our New Beetle. Mine will be a fairly basic model for the first time. It has the walls up, interior in, sheeting done. I have been working on mine every night and whenever I can on the weekends and I would like it to be road worthy by August. It should be ready for paint next weekend. I can tell you that the building of a TD is very interesting and they pose all kinds of unique issues you have to overcome. As you can see from this site everyone has their own unique way of building and I think thats what makes it so appealing. I visit this website for ideas and contruction tips when I encounter a problem, it is a wealth of info. I read as many posts as I could in the weeks before to get an idea of how to build one and what I wanted. We had gone and looked at a Little Guy trailer at a local RV dealer and after he told us he wanted $400.00 to PDI it

I decided to build one myself. :thumbsup:

So go ahead and post lots of questions :thinking:

you will get lots of good answers from the experienced builders on here.

hey there.... i'm building in Pembroke, Ontario. The toughest part for me so far was finding some of the materials (steel, aluminum, moldings, etc) Once I tracked all of that down, the actual building time has been pretty quick. There are some pics posted to my album....

Greg a few years back we almost bought a tear from a guy in Brampton. It was a 4X8 and it could well be he still has it. If that is something you are interested in, let me know and I'll see if I can round up his contact info. I also have several good photos we took of it.

As for local builders, there is Jim Wadie in Montreal (he has a 4X8 for sale). I have some photos of it as well I took when we met him camping last year. His website is http://adirondackteardrops.com/ .

Then there is Dave Frantsi in Kirkfield (Balsam Lake Prov Park area) who builds custom tears, mainly for the hot rod crowd. See http://www3.sympatico.ca/dfrantsi/

Otherwise you might have to take a scenic drive over to Maine to Popular Hill RV, see http://poplarhillrv.com/ . They have a 2004 base Camp-Inn still available, and a few 2005 models due in, in the fall.

You're welcome to head over this weekend. I've sent you an email with my co-ordinates.

I'll be building a tongue box for the tear, to hold all the gross, dusty stuff that we don't want in the car or the galley: the Weber, the charcoal, the firewood. Give me plywood and a Skillsaw and I'm a happy man.

Seriously, my teardrop seems to want some more tongue weight. The group 27 deep cycle marine battery lives in the galley behind the axle.

It is just a little portable charcoal Weber Kettle...
