Hi all, I'm new here and maybe just over looking things, but I don't see any info on rubber roofs, other then a few people mentioning them. Exactly what and where would you get material for a 1 piece rubber roof?

I did try a search which came up with lots of threads, but none that answered these questions, that I could tell.

thanks in advance
John

The larger box store lumberyards will order it !

Unfortunatly the smallest piece they will probably order for you is enough to do 3-4 tiny trailers.

Look up roofing contractors in the yellow pages and start calling. Ask if they have any small remnants of the EPDM roofing membrane.

Search for EPDM, that's what it's called.

Check out the Build Journal for Derek's Vardo, he's contemplating EPDM

Here's some info in this thread

How about a house vinyl drip edge along with the rubber membrane? This would protect the plywood edges from where the water would tend to collect a bit. Covers up the end grain of the plywood.

Your buddy being in the biz will explain but the membrane is captured between an inner and and outer metal or hard rubber trim edge. I found a pic of the hard rubber style...........

I've used some RTV adhesives that would hold the edges down in a huricane.

Here's a possible source for the material. These guys handle a lot of surplus RV materials.

If your ok with black just go to your local "pond" store and they have 45mil rubber roofing for 50-75 cents a foot. They will call it pond liner but its made by firestone. Be sure to get the rubber stuff..some stores sell PVC liner as well.

I got mine at the local Fleet Farm. They sell it for about $6 a linear foot off the 10 foot wide roll; that's only about 60 cents a square foot.

Got mine from local RV repair shop. they use it on coach roofs. Bought a remnant piece for a real discount, but also bought the correct adhesive from the same dealer. It is EPDM in white.

I'm rounding up material, parts and pieces for my build as I can. A rubber roof was in my plans from the beginning, sooooo the search was on. I drove by a job site where a building was being re-roofed, and rolls and rolls of this beautiful white rubber roofing were everywhere. I stopped and asked the foreman if he had and would sell any "scraps". I told him what I had planned for the "scraps" we talked a little fishing, camping, hunting,.......he said come back in a week.... now I have way more than enough for my roof, FOR FREE!!!!! :D
