Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Anybody ever use a real door knob on their tear. My door is going to be 2" thick and thought about using a real door knob for open and closing.

Yes i put on a Kwikset lever lock on the 4x4 Benroy and ive had no problems so far

Think that's what Michael Westhoff did. Looked great, from the pictures I saw, and I plan to do the same. Seems to me as if it would be a whole lot more secure.

As a Bonded Locksmith I can tell you that a Key in knob lockset will be more secure than the standard wafer lock used on most trailers. If you can go with a Schlage Grade 2 or better. Also make shure it has a dead latch on the bolt thats the extra pin on the bolt so you can't open it with a credit card

It wasn't the the most cost effective solution, but we wanted brass handles in the inside and the satin chrome on the outside. To accomplish this we ended up buying FOUR Schlage Accent brand door locksets; two brass, two satin chrome, all keyed alike. We called around, talked to local hardware store, box stores, etc, and no one would custom order mis-matched color sets.



Anyway, it worked and looks really nice. The only word of caution is if the lock button on the inside handle is in the locked position and you close the door, it is really easy to lock yourself out.

I'm seriously considering using slide bolts on both sides of the door, the ones with a hole/setup for adding a small hanging padlock on the exterior for when the TD is left unattended:

From what I now believe, anyone with a decent screwdriver is going to be able to rip the hell apart of these doors anyway if they really wanted to get in. So by doing this, I can eliminate a minorly complicated aspect of the build. Plus, when you're sleeping inside, those slidebolts lock anyway.

Not 100% sure yet, but I'm thinking about it.

I don't seem to have much to choose from down here in Mexico, so I was looking at a matched pair (Left-hand, Right-hand) of locks off of a junked sleeper, off of a Kenworth 18-wheeler. They look pretty strong.
