Picture frames for windows?

Was wondering if quality wood picture frames would work for window inserts? If one got some thicker glass or lexan, secured it in the frame properly and then mounted the whole frame into a cutout in the side (and weatherproofed with silicone).

Any thoughts or anyone tried this before?

My concern would be to make sure that the frame was made of wood and not MDF, and to double check that (at the very least) the glue used was waterproof.

That said, corner jigs for making picture frames aren't that pricey and you could make sure that the materials were up[ to the job if you did it yourself.
There are hundreds of different profiles for mouldings and baseboards that would work and you wouldn't be restricted by the size of the frame.

That said, you can encapsulate damn near anything in epoxy !

Picture frame moulding is very EXPENSIVE ... the less expensive ones are made of plastic ... That might be good !!! No Rot !!!

My concerns would not be the frame but the "glass"... I would replace standard picture frame glass with "tempered safety glass" or "Lexan"..

Who wants a TB full of razor sharp glass shards to stab you every time you "move" inside... The "gravel" of tempered safety glass would be bad enough but at least it probably will not cut you...
