Why do most Tears have the curved part of the door pointing backward? Would't it look better forward, matching the curve on the front of the cabin? Doesn't look symetrical to me. It also appears that there might be the possibility of a little wider doorway that way. Brad Jacobsen's Tear in the Hall of Fame is one of the few curved forward.

I think a lot of this is taste. I like the way it looks - Also there is some HUMAN FACTORS also to consider. Since most sleeping is done with the head towards the trailer tongue - the door with the curve part facing to the rear - gives you more clearance to get your feet/legs through the doorway. Am I making any sense here???

But again - it is how you would like it.......

The traditional teardrop shape slopes more toward the back, so the rear-sloping door helps accentuate that shape, IMO. You can build your tear any way you want though. That's the beauty of it!

There are a few tears with the suicide doors that open from the front but if the door ever came open while at highway speeds it would be a disaster. It can happen. Mine open from the back and when making a panic stop I had something come off the top shelf and hit the right door handle unlatching it even though it was locked with a key. Thanks to a motorist that honked to alert me or things would have started flying out.

I just noticed the new post in the For Sale section with pic of a fiberglass "tear" with door that open upwards.

this idea has an intriquing appeal.

what would be any advantage or disadvantage to this idea. What do you guys think?

I can think of a bunch of disadvantages.

Don't know for shure, but it seems to me the door and hinge would have to be substantially stronger, would be more difficult to seal, and might be a hazard for the potential of falling on you and bumping your head on it.

However, it does look cool. Sort of like suicide door on old cars.

Thought the same thing at first.... then started thinking some more (the curse of the tear builder). Maybe the same construction as the hatch only down sized????

I have 1 door lifts up, & 1 is normal...The door that goes up is more for looking out of...Working on some bug netting....So far I just prop it up w/my walking cane...I realley like it this way..The other door is what we use for climbing in & out of...Proped up it sure lets the air flow..The door, 3 windows that open + a roof vent...Even in light rain it keeps the rain out this way..Thought Id try it this way,If I didn't like it we could allways put a side hinge on it...But to me it's a keeper just like it is... vinoscooter
