I have just starting building a Cubby and am collecting materials. The plans say to coat the bottom with asphalt emulsion, but I can't find it anywhere. The people at my local Home Depot have no idea what it is. Any clues about where to get it?
Thanks.

It's in with the roofing supplies. Only about $7 a can.

Go to HD and look in the roof patching area. Thats where I get mine. They sell it in 1 and 5 gallon cans. It's pouring down rain right now or I would go out and tell you what the brand name is.

I wondered if it was the same thing as roof patch, but the folks at HD said it wasn't. I picked up "White Elastomeric Roof Coating" -- will that work?
Thanks for the quick replies!!

I used a product very similar to Mike above and I believe I got it at Home Depot for about 8$. Get a big, cheap paint brush(you will throw it when done). I found it *much* easier to use after leaving the can in the sun for a couple of hours before use. One coat did it, but it took several days to dry good.
oh, by the way, that stuff has a will of it's own and will jump on your clothes and never come off - be prepared

The brand I used was Henrys. I found it in the roofing section. It is black and about $8. Plan on throwing away your brush and wear gloves. I tried something different. I used a paint stir stick and spread across the plywood. It worked pretty good, but you have to be careful to spread it evenly. If you get it too thick, it will take days to dry.

It's not the white stuff. HD definitely has what you're looking for, though.
The can might not say "asphalt," don't remember. Maybe just roofing emulsion.

The white elastomeric will work just fine, it just doesnt penetrate the wood as much as the asphalt coating,, the asphalt coating is under the brand name Henry, just dont get cement,, its too thick and harder to work with,, it should say something to the effect ,, roof coating or asphalt roof coating,,
wear old clothes though, the stuff will jump 5 feet to get on ya while ya putting it on

5 Gallons? Holey Moley! I only used about a third of that 1 gallon can to coat the underside of my 5x8 tear.

Yep--that's the stuff I bought...Gardner. And like Tom, with one gallon, I have enough left over to do all the other tears on the block.
I seem to recall it doesn't have a long shelf life, or maybe I'm thinking of something else.
And Tom, I'm really disappointed with you! What a messy job you must have done, what with that stuff dripping down the side of the can like that!
Actually, on mine, you can't even read the label now--and there's no green visible at all.
