interior trim

Postby glenpinpat » Sun Jun 05, 2011 4:37 pm

as the subject said, I am in need of some trim that will flex to the curves in my TD. I was getting ready for spring tear11 and decided I did not to want to look to redneck so I panelled the inside. Know I need to run trim on the inside. What does everybody else use or have used? Thanks Patrick

I've see 1/4 round with curfs cut in the back, thin and wide trim, rope, rope lights. I was talking to a fellow in an orange vest about cutting curfs in some 1/4 round, he grabbed a piece and said it would make a 20'' radoius. It almost did before it broke into 3 pieces in his hands.

On a finished wood interior, I usually 2 tone them, like in a birch and a mahogany. I rip up the contrasting wood into like 3/8 x just under 1/8, finish them up and install with a brad nailer and a bit of epoxy. I've also made like a 5/16 x 5/16 with a 45 on it and take the hard corner off the back side. You need straight grained materials. Both have worked well for me, unless you really need to hide any fit up issues, then you need something bigger. Doug

I definetly need to hide touch up issues!!! I saw a product called flex trim online but have no idea where to buy it. I was going to use some nice hemp marine rope I have but am still looking at options. I could steam pieces off wood and then bend them to fit But I am Lazy

7/16" Stars'n Stripes rope installed with industrial strength Hot Melt glue went on easily, covered a multitude of errors, & matched pretty well our curtains, throw pillows, galley trim, & exterior decal theme -

We've since redone the galley but kept the red, white, 'n blue colors -

While the topic of steaming was brought up, I made a steamer out of an old metal gas can, a camp stove, a length of PVC pipe, some fittings and a length of hose. I havn't used it yet, but my neighbor said it worked well when he barrowed it last summer.

Found the 'stars'n stripes' I used at Tractor Supply. I've seen quite a lot of different colors/patterns at Wal Mart or even the Dollar Store.

I used the foam stuff, like quarter round, but with unequal legs, I think it was called shoe molding. It had one leg that measured 5/8 in. and the other was 3/8 in. It bent nice the 3/8 way.

flexible molding

I am using the plastic molding. It works great. I found a good supply of styles at Lowes. It is pretty cheap too.
