extending floor on harber frieght trailer

Postby fireicera » Sat Jun 11, 2011 11:13 pm

Want to use a HF trailer but also want a wider foundation. Can I build the foundation to overhang the base by 6 to 12 inches on each side and perhaps the rear also?

Thanking you in adance

I am currently building my trailer to extend 6" on either side and more off the back. Others have done so here also.

...extending the width 6" per side is no real problem, extending the length can be a SERIOUS problem if you don't take in consideration loading/balance...even at 8' long, a TD built in a standard fashion can have serious balance problems if the axle has not been relocated back a bit...extending the length to the rear can only make this problem worse......................

Yes in my case I extended back 7" and built the floor out over the tongue of the trailer an additional 17", so hopefully the weight distribution will work out OK. In my case I have no galley off the back where a lot of weight comes into play. Fingers crossed.
