I need some drawer slides...

Postby dh » Fri Jun 17, 2011 3:36 am

I'm looking for some drawer slides that lock in the open and closed position. I've tried Grainger and McMaster Carr, but no luck. I'm weary of ordering these online, as quality can be questionable. Anybody know a quality hardware source I might try?

I ordered a couple of different times from www.drawerslides.com and all have been really good quality. The idiots at FedEx misdelivered one order and the company sent another before FedMess could find the original with no questions.

I checked out the drawer slides here as suggested:

http://www.drawerslides.com/c/accuride-AL4140

Nice but pricey (as in THOUSANDS of dollars).

Cheers,

Gus

Drop into a couple of local cabinet showrooms and talk to the folks there about the slides you need. They have catalogs stacked on catalogs from just about all of the manufacturers - Blum, Grass, Hettich, Haefle - you name it. They might even have a set of the slides you're looking for installed in a display cabinet for you to check out in person. If you find the set you're looking for, I'd get a manufacturer name and model number, then do a bit of online research to get the best price. A lot of local shops will at least match online prices, and that keeps your shopping money local.

Same is true for all kinds of cabinet hardware. I deal with a local shop that sells stock cabinets (Kraft Made and other brands) and appliances. I use them as a source for appliance parts as well as cabinet hardware - they'll match online prices, and I don't pay for shipping. Maybe you have a similar source nearby?

I just sent them an email, They have a lot of stuff, I came up with the same slides as Gus, maybe they have something more 'cost effective'.

Here is another positive closed one......

http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=21480&filter=DRAWER%20SLIDE%20STOPS

Why couldn't a button type friction catch be added between the side rail of the drawer and the cabinet face.

Bore the spring loaded button in the rail and install 2 catches on the drawer box. One to lock in and one to lock out into the extended position.

I need it to lock open too. It isn't going on a drawer, but a pull out for the stove, so it has to lock open and closed.

I like that idea Bob, I might be able to make that work. Now where do I get those catches?

That was out of Rockler (I think) but any good builders hardware center should have them. Print off the picture and take it with you in case the clearasil crowd is on duty and don't have a clue. They are use a lot on small linen and pantry doors. You might find smaller versions of them on some salvage medicine cabinet doors as well.

I just got to thinking......

and yes it hurt :?

In our kitchen we have a in-cabinet cutting board we hardly ever use but it actually is installed down hill maybe 4-5 degrees and it rolls in real sweet. When it is fully extended the board drops in a grove by its own weight and you have to lift ever so slightly to get it to roll back in. Real simple and fool proof ( unless gravity fails us)

It is also easily removable to use on the counter top by lifting as you extend to carry it over the locking grove.

These might work for you.

It seems they only have the lock in lock out feature on their extra heavy duty slides.
