gas supports

please post pics of how you used gas supports for the galley hatch.

If you did not use gas supports, what did you use? My hatch is about 60 or 70 pounds so a prop rod will not work.

How did you determine where to place the gas props on the wall and the hatch and how did you determine the length and lbs of pressure needed?

As long as one end is about 6" from the hinge the other end should be near the edge (either side wall or hatch) here is the formula from McMaster Carr http://www.mcmaster.com/#gas-springs/=cvw3lw

I mounted my struts in a similar manner although I oriented them opposite of the drawing. They are oriented the same way the struts are on the hatch of my TV.

I have them, but over the years they no longer hold up the hatch. It used to only happen in cold weather, but I've gone back to a 2x4 prop because it happens all the time. They are pretty much a lift assist because my hatch is heavy.

I have only had to replace my springs once on my first tear. I just added some to buds tear after he broke is neck it is too hard to lift and hold for him so they help him out a lot. Also seen a few hatches blow over so it is nice to have gas springs and if you have to change them once they are installed they are easy to replace.

Slow guy it is a waste to put them on your suspension because they are not dampning shocks they are gas springs and dought they would work for suspension.

They work fine so far. We used 80# ones. If they wear out in a few years, we will replace them.
