Ive been on the horns of a dilemma for the last few days. With the new to me TV, my original plans of lighter and a little smaller then my first lil vardo isnt a concern now, Im tryin to figure how to do the next lil vardo build. The rav4 is 73" wide and 69" tall. I do have a roof rack so I could go a little bit taller and build a small wind deflector on top but dont plan on goin standup height.
Now if I keep it to 72 or 73" wide will keep within the width of it shouldnt have issues with drag, but I am planning to be way under the max tow weight of 3500lbs I was debateing the pro's and cons of goin 78" and putting the bed straight across the back like a traditional vardo which means I could get some decent storeage under the bed for clothes and misc items, the cabin is gonna be 8 feet long with a 2 foot box on the back for a galley.
Would the extra 3" wider on each side of my Rav4 be a real problem? Ive read starleen2's builds and he went a little wider then his vehicle and only noticed a small decrease in fuel mileage.
Down the road 1 day I will build a standup vardo, but would prefer something that wont be a major hit on my mpg and a little bigger is a plus to me since I plan on this being like a 2nd home when I go away to visit friends since most of my friends are an hour or 2 + away from me and would like to be able to retire at night to my own sleeping quaters for a little privacy besides obviously going camping in it.
any thoughts?
thanks
