Colorklad, painted galvanized steel, anyone used

Postby Aaron Coffee » Tue Jul 19, 2011 2:47 pm

finally got the a color chart for the prepainted aluminum and wouldn't you know that the 2 colors I like are only available in the aluminum as special order(which, I assume, means a certain qunatity), but the two colors are part of the standard colors for colorklad(prepainted galvanized)has anyone used this? Can anyone see any problems with using it? This would be just for the roof.

Bump.

I don't know anything about this material but am interested in finding out, too!

Aaron, I know it or something similar has been used by more than a couple of folks...unfortunately, I cannot come up with a name or pics for you...it shouldn't be any harder(or at least not much) to use than any other metal covering...afterall, it is used on lotssa cargo trailers.....

Hi Aaron, I've picked up some sample metal from Ryerson to see how it formed in the break, made some end cap's and conductors, that was a couple years back It's good stuff and doesn't get marked up too easy. It has a coating on the back that gives it a dead blow type feel. If you can't get the aluminum in what you want I'd get the Galvalume- same as paint grip. Plus the steel you can get wider. I have an account there, post what you want and I'll talk with my guy and get a quote.

I called a couple months ago concerning samples and they didn't seem to want to deal with me since I didn't have an account. My employer buys some of our steel and stainless from Ryerson, if I can't order it through our purchaser I can order it through the part of our company that makes parts for outside companies. Hopefully we go back to somewhat normal hours next week and I will call and get some prices. One question what guage of galvanized would I want to use? If I remember right 20 guage is around .040, correct?

Yeah 20 ga is about .040 plus about .005 for coating and paint but 24 ga is standard for colorklad, .027 plus about .005 for coating and paint. 20 gauge is heavy, 24 would probably be plenty IMO. I stated that paint grip is the same as galvalume and thats wrong, galvalume is aluminimized metal in layman terms, I'd still use that instead of galvinized.

Finaaly called them, according to them alumaklad is mainly a salt water marine product so they don't stock it at the nearest distributor, and they wouldn'y order in just two sheets, they can get the colorklad in the color I want for $97 a sheet.
