Harbor Freight Trailer ????

Well... Here I go on a giant step backwards... Instead of building a trailer as I planned..... I saw the 1195# rated 12" wheeled unit on sale for $209.00.
My plans is to have a finished trailer under 700# loaded, and pull it with my Toyota Corolla. Any and all advice is welcome good, bad, or ugly.

Its alll in what you build it from...both my lil vardo's are on the same HF trailers and the first one came in around 650lbs without a battery. Think composite walls!

How you load it is important, too. Plan loading to keep center of gravity as close to the axle as possible to reduce, but not totally eliminate, tongue weight.

You might want to take a look at Mike's Generic Benroy plans at the top of the page. That is the trailer he used and it has some great ideas on how to move the axle back using what you get in the box. .
I widened mine on the Northoods to 5".

Make sure your tongue weight is between 10 to 15% of the total weight of the finished teardrop, it will assure you longitudinal stability and it will not be squirrely while towing.

I used the 5'x8' Harbor Freight trailer for my build:

It worked great! No problems at all.
I ended up with around 100 lbs of tongue weight and our little Dodge Caliber pulls it really nicely down the interstate at, well, the speed limit (or so).
