I have a lightly used queen mattress that will be the main mattress in Charley. The loft is a different story, its a 24 inch deep by 58 inch wide area for the dogs or small child. So I am thinking just a simple foam mattress that would do it.

WHere would one start to look for foam, not sure a Michaels or another craft store would have it.

Micheal's actually does sell foam. They sell it in an assortment of sizes and thicknesses. You could get like a 2" base foam from Micheal's and then put a 1.5" soft mattress topper from Wally world on top of it. The Micheal's in West Valley is where I saw it. It's in the back north corner of the store, by the fabrics. And its the Micheal's on 5600 west and 3100 south. FYI....

It's nice to see a fellow West Valley-in on the boards!

I found sellers off ebay that were better than local prices and included free shipping. They even cut the foam to the size I wanted. I purchased from two different sellers, both who answered my emails quickly, offered to cut the mattress to the size I needed, and both recommended a firmness needed for sleeping or as in my case sleeping/dinnette seating.

We bought our 5" thick foam from this ebay seller. He cut it to our specs, and the shipping was quick, and the price fair.

There are quite a few foam suppliers on ebay.

I used this stuff this summer to replace the far to soft foam I originally had in mine.

Sleep time

I used the the 5 inch stuff. This is pretty hard stuff and if I was to do it again maybe go with 3 inch of it and an inch or 2 of something softer.

I weigh almost 300 lbs  And I can set on it and not sink all the way into it. But I made a riser for the upper 1/3 to make it at an angle and it sleeps a whole lot better than the original foam. Well the bottom 1/3 is still the crap foam, my legs don't know the difference. I made a 9 night trip this summer and slept pretty good on it.

This place does have other foams, my next one i will try a 2 layer like I discussed with the next softer foam. I sure would like to get some samples to know a bit more. Or get together with people who have different kinds of foam.

Went to Joanns for some other fabric and noticed foam on the far wall. So for 44 dollars a yard. So there was a piece that was just a few inches short. So I bought it and with the 25% off coupon it wasn't that bad. Did find out that the foam is going on sale next week. (Nov 6 2011) for 50% off so may do the main mattress which will make it so I don't have to cut to fit the queen size mattress I was going to use. Life is good

I ordered a 6" foam mattress off eBay (4" base with a 2" memory foam top) with a stretch on cover - supposedly designed for RVs, on sale with free shipping. I believe the sale ends today.

Here is the link for the actual queen size sale mattress:

What I am actually looking for is a heavy duty zippered mattress protector in like a cotton ticking type fabric. One that would fully enclose the mattress on all sides, top and bottom. Anyone know where I may be able to get one made for a 6" queen size?

Well I missed those sales but joanns did have a 60 percent off coupon for this weekend and so I went and got 5 yds of 4 inch foam. The price was just a penny shy of 300 dollars but with the coupon I paid 129. Not to bad.

I will second the foam by mail, we have 5" (4" would have been enough) and they can make it what ever size you want.
