Hi All,

I know that this must seem a silly question but I am close to starting my first build and I cannot seem to find the answer to this question....

Do most people bolt the floor to the trailer with "U bolts" or do they drill a hole in the trailer beam and use a standard Bolt..?

Thanks

ardan

I used standard bolts. I have 2x4's down both sides of my trailer, they each have five 3/8" bolts and lots of PL Premium glue. The floor is screwed into them every 8" and also bolted to the frame with two 3/8" bolts on both the front and the rear (more glue too.)

Another popular way to fasten the deck to the trailer is to use trailer floor screws like these from ABCTrailer Parts. They can be found at any number of places.

To use trailer floor screws, you simply drill a pilot hole through your floor into the steel and sink them in.

Thanks

What I did about every two feet drilled holes in the metal frame and then into the 2X4 to match them up. Countersunk the bolts and then framed the floor to match the metal. Applied locking washers and locktight on the underside. they are 3/8th bolts. a little overkill but they were free so why not.

I dont have a great picture of mine at that stage but when I stretched my frame to 4x10 I mounted a cedar 2x4x10 oneach side, about 7 1/2" bolts on each side then the floor is screwed down to it in many places. I also have 2 cedar 2x4's across the width that the floor is also screwed to. Im hopein that holds up lol.

Becky, thanks for sharing those pictures. That give a lot of area to glue & screw the side walls to.

We completed the floor, using 1/2 inch plywood on 2x2s and just used standard bolts to attach it to the frame.
