I have noticed both the side door hinges mounted flat on the outside and with the hinge "sides" on the door and side edges. Which is better and how do I keep the water from getting in past the knuckles? Thanx.... I'm ready to start skinning the beast, but have been going bonkers trying to decide how to go.

I used the offset hinges from Grant at Lil Bear...I'm glad I did...I only sealed them on the tear side and door side using black silicone....I was in driving rain for hours across Nevada on my way to Minden and had no leaks on them...You could also put a small strip of thin material inbetween the interior sides if you were concerned about water intrusion...I started to do the piano thing....these hinges with the extra break in them are a lot stiffer...hey, it's just my opinion however....Doug

...we are using a SS piano hinge, there is an interior seal all the way around the door so no seal at the hinge is necessary

No problem sealing out the elements. This hinge is from Lowe's with an 1/8" spacer. I used this hollow core seal on the hinge side and P seal around the tear side. Has worked perfect.

I'm confused, Denny:

Do you mean hollow DOOR seal? And is the P seal used on the sides only, not the door? Basically, I'm trying to identify the products, what they look like. Can you point them out in your photo?

I made the radical decision on Friday to ignore all conventional wisdom and I bought three black 8-inch tee-hinges for each door, leaving all of my edges, door and sides, totally clear for weather stripping. I just can't figure out what the heck to use yet.

I was warned against tee hinges because of possible warping of the door--but I can still attach hard flat aluminum to the side edges of the doors to avoid this.
