I was just thinking

Has anyone used Formica or other counter laminate as a siding material over luan? I mean as long as the edges are protected it is very durable and bends easily fairly good. How would it hold up over time exposed to the sun and the elements?

I know about Filon but it is much more expensive.

I made a small utility trailer out of some old Formica covered plywood salvaged from a sandwich shop counter. It has been outdoors for 5 years and has stood up well. The surface is faded and dull but it is still in one piece.

I can see using this material if you want to build a "woodie" style trailer. Cover the sides with wood grain Formica and add decorative strips of varnished wood around the edges and down the side.

This would require more maintenance than fibreglass or aluminum siding but not a whole lot. One coat of varnish every year or 2 should keep it looking new.
