Aluminum for the top and sides -

I found a source in Atlanta that will ship free if over 100 pounds. http://www.saf.com . I know that 3003 aluminum is not rated quite as high as 5005. Any ideas on the difference. I can get the .040 3003 in 10 ft lengths 60 inches wide so that appeals to me.

I may be able to locate aluminum locally with more effort, but so far, have not.

With four sheets of the 3003, that would completely cover my proposed 5 x 10 tear with a bit left over for ice chest, or other project.

check your area for a highway trailer repair place, yes the big 40~53 foot trailers you see behind semi's. The roof skin for one of these babies is normally about .040" and is 103" wide! I just bought a piece here in Manitoba Canada for $13 a linear foot ( a linear foot is almost 9 sq/ft of this 103" wide) Great deal. Will take a bit of work to polish but at that price I will not complain. Check your local semi dealer for the address of the nearest trailer repair place. They should know!

I am getting ready to buy Aluminum for my Tear. I have located (1) .025 3003H14 and (2) .032 5052H32. Anyone have an opinion on which is better to use? Is one easier to work with than the other?

Dan, I used .032 on my trailer and found it to be very easy to work with. I think .025 would be to thin and more easily dented.

Dan what size alum do you need,,there are a couple of suppliers in Asheville or here in G'ville also,,most is gonna be .032 but with a bit of scrounging I could come up with .040.. also color??

Dan, This is the company I bought my Al from near Greer, SC. They carry .032, .040 and other thicknesses in 4x8, 4x10 and 5x10 in colors, polished and mill finish.

Clancy, thanks for the tip for the source of Aluminum in Greer. They had just what I was looking for. And they are only 1 hr & 15 min from my home. Am going to get .032 in white. Haven't actually gotten it as they were out but expected next day delivery.

Dan,, sure was nice meeting you and Jane this week,,hope the trip was worthwhile,,,I called a source in Easley this am about aluminum,,.032 mill finish is $39.5 per 4x10 ft sheet,,that may or may not be a good price but it is another comparison cost for ya,,

I don't think that my Tear will be ready by the October get-together. I am buying aluminum so that I can use sidewalls as a template for the aluminum. The sides are just going up today. I have a long way to go.

And YES you all are welcome to visit my shop when you come to Davidson River - or any time is OK. I live about 40-45 minutes from the campground. It is back in the woods so you will need directions. Just let me know.
