Covering my 5X8 TT Benroy with FRP top and sides...what are the options for edge trim where the two come together....the top sheet overlaps the side sheet...seen aluminum trim, anneal it and screw it down...kinda pricey...any plastic trim out there, 90 degree, 1 inch by 1 inch L style?....tightest radius is 19 inch...thanks to all...Mick

If by FRP you mean you're using fiberglass cloth and laping it over at the edges then why do you need to put trim on it. I used fiberglass cloth and epoxy on my weekender and after a little sanding on the edges I didn't use any trim on it, I think it looked pretty good without it. Larry

Larry, do you have pics of your weekender. I am using cloth and resin also and was wondering whether I would need trim or not. Did you round over the edges and lap the cloth over the edges or use fiberglass tape on the edges?

I think SlickG is using FRP panels.

Slick... maybe use an aluminum trim on the corners with butyl tape underneath the trim?

Becky, I built my weekender with 1/2" plywood using 2 x 2, actually 1.5 x 1.5", for frame work. At all edges I did a slight round over and lapped the glass cloth by about 3 to 4 inches. After it dries you can hit the edge of the seam with a sander to blend it in.

I did glass the side wall be fore standing it up on the trailer. Its easier to do it laying flat. Then did the roof laping it over the side wall about 3 or 4 inches.Larry

That's pretty much how I had planned to do it Larry. So are you planning on putting moulding on the edges even though they are glassed?

The only moulding I put on mine were back on the hatch for water proofing. Used piece of 1.5" aluminum angle.Larry

Thanks Larry. Sounds good. That was basically my plan as well.

Moulding would "dress it up" a bit I suppose. But with the edges being completely fiberglassed over, I figured it was just an added step and expense I didn't need.

I would strongly urge you to work with Frank Bear at Vintage Technologies.
He stocks aluminum trim that is REALLY easy to work with and looks great. You can see it right after being installed here, on my build page:

I found him to be incredibly knowledgeable, very easy to work with, and very reasonably priced.

Lowes sells 3/4" x 3/4" x 8' aluminum angle (1/16") for about 10 bucks. You would need two, maybe three pieces to do it, depending on your hatch dimensions. Pretty easy to anneal it - lots of annealing advice in this forum.

At this point you need to weigh a trim's ability to seal and its stamina for the cost.

I sided my trailer with big box store FRP and used 5/8" white pvc angle trim. I heated it to make it soft and bent it over the rounded edges. The whole trailer is covered with UV resistant clear coat. The angle trim was $5 or so for a 10' stick. I don't know how it would hold up after a summer of sun exposure in 120 degree desert weather, but i don't take many desert trips and i cover my tear when its not in use

WILLOWAGON....what specifically did you use for trim and where did you get it?....been all over home depot....ready to cover trailer...thanks for all the replies, got to get some pics up....

How will the PVC trim hold up with temp changes? I've read that it expands/contracts quite a bit as temps flux, but that was specific to PVC sheeting.
