Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Today I tried to install the dust caps on the wheels. One side is so tight I can't get it all the way on. The other side is so loose I can pull it off with my hand.


I might try switching them tomorrow.


Anyone else have problems like this with their HF trailer's?

After you have tried swapping and if still the same, cut, preferably with shears or snips a couple or 3 or 4 slots around the very edge of the too tight one and take a hammer, preferably a ball peen and "peen" the very edge of the loose one from inside out. Dust caps on HF trailers have been a problem for many

Yup, I've lost a few (I own two HF trailers). The bad news is that they are a really weird size that I couldn't find in any parts store. The good news though is that you can call HF and order more. They're only about $1 each plus a few bucks for shipping. I ordered 5 just in case.

I have found that silicon adhesive works well for a loose fit. I only put a few dabs right on the outter edge. It peels off easily too. Of course duct tape works too but it is a bit ugly.

I use a rubber mallet to tap on the tight one.

...Bob I would also HIGHLY recommend that you pull the hub and insure the bearings are properly greased and tightened...a little hassle now = no headaches down the road

The first thing I did was check the bearings for grease. They looked OK but I added some more just to be on the safe side.

Switching the dust caps worked for one. The other one was still loose. Your suggestion to use a ball peen hammer got me to thinking. I took a spring loaded center punch and went around the inside lip of the dust cap making little dimples. It seamed to work, I coludn't pull the cap off with my hand.

Time will tell if it stays on. Thanks for your help.

That's a great idea about getting extra caps. Looks like this could be an on going problem.
