Where do you get the large pieces of aluminum that I see on some tears and how much does it cost. I'm in the planning stage and trying to make a material list and cost est.

When I built mt 4X10 TD I couldn't find a local supply of sheets of aluminum long enough for the projeact. I got my long pieces from an outfit called Airpart Inc. in Kansas City , KS. They sell 5250 in sheets up to 12 long and thet roll them for shipping, so they can ship UPS. I just checked the current price of .032 4' wide is 10.95 per foot. I used one 8' sheet two 10' sheets & one 12' sheet. At the time I bought mine it came to a little over $450.00 with shipping. The increased prices of every thing I bet it would come to $500.00 today.

Check with any of the local semi-trailer repair shops if there are any close. You can get 103" wide off the coil mill finish and sometimes white as long as you want, relatively inexpensively or at least cheaper than the 4x8 sheets on a per sq.ft. basis. I'm thinking it was like 13$ a running foot here in Ca. That was a couple of years ago however. Regardless, I personally think that's your best bet. A large sheet can be easily cut with a carbide blade in a circular saw. Call around. Doug

Thank-you all for the replys. I live in St. Louis, Mo. I want mine to be wider than 4', probably around 5 1/2 to 6' so I'll check out the trailer repair shops. I even know a guy from church who's family has a trailer shop. I'll check with him. Again, thank-you.

I got mine at a local sign company. I can't remember exactly the cost but I paid like $50ish each for the 4x8 sheets and $60ish for the 4x10 sheet.

I bought 4 4x10 sheets of .040 clear anodized for $325 from O H Hendricks steel supply here in Memphis.I'm ready to put it on my tear and scratching my head wondering how I'm going to do it by myself. But I've got a plan.

I bought my mill finish .040 aluminum from a semi trailer repair place - Apex trailer repair in Jeffersonville, IN. I bought it by the foot off a roll, roll is 102" wide. If I remember right, I give around $13 a running foot. Had around $300 in it (20 + ft, they were a little generous with it), enough to do my entire trailer including bending my own trim.

I'm sure you'll have a trailer repair place close to you. Look around the interstate exits on the outskirts of a big city.
