Has anyone used butyl tape between thier fenders and thier trailer.

I was hoping to put black diamond plating along the bottom edge and front of the trailer, not sure i can due to weight but thinking of doing it through paint. anyone ever done a faux diamond plating pattern before and how would i do it, not quiet sure.

After laying down a base coat you could have a vinyl mask made up with the tread pattern cut out, hit those with a tone on tone color, fog a shadow color on from the bottom, then hit the tops with a highlight color before peeling the mask off, but keep in mind that I have virtually no air brushing experience, so you may want to do a little more research.

But why? There are some incredibly light diamond tread options out there in very thin aluminum. Here's a likely source I found on a Google hit. Metals Depot (no affiliation).

The vinyl mask is a great idea and doing some googling which i should have done they alread have one made and youtube had a demostration on how to paint your xbox 360 with diamond plating look. i really wanted black diamond plating, i was thinking i could put a black base coat down and then do the tred in the red to match the main color.

Anoterh painting question and maybe Zach can answer this best. I plan on doing two different colors a bright red for teh main body and roof and then on teh lower edge about 6 inches of a black stripe with the front lower panel black. I have never really done any painting that i meant to look nice, so do i lay down the red with a little overlap and once dry do the black once i have masked it. going to use a roller. The black will have a red diamond plating look stenciled onto it.
your thoughts.

That sounds good to me. The black will cover any of the red over lap far better than the red will cover the black (although with latex it probably is not as critical?).

I think your color scheme will look great together with the diamond plate look tying the two colors together. Consider a radius section of black on the front lower corners of your sides, or a dart (scallop) or swoosh of black somewhere to help break up the separation and pure geometric look to the side, as well. Nothing too gawdy, just a little something.

You got it! I think that looks a lot better, and still not at all hard to do.

You could even kick it up at the fender and run the black out to the rear at the same height as the fender. That might look nice, too. Just one person's suggestion. You only have yourself to please, so have fun with it.
