Off road TD with 33" tires?

I am starting to plan my TD to be towed behind a 3.5" lifted bronco with 33" tires, and would like to get input on trailers and designs for this type of application. I do not plan on extreme four wheeling with the TD, but would like to use the spare from the bronco for the trailer. The biggest thing so far is having a step stool for my wife to clamber into both the rig and the trailer.

Tires do not have to match but bolt circle does. The big problem is 33" tires = a fair amount of drag. I thought about buying an adapter so that I could use the Subaru donut on our trailer, but will opt for a spare.

I say go for it... Just make the modifications necessary to make it work...

Actually, when sharing the spare with a 4x4 TV it does have to match the TV, otherwise you can wear out a differental in short order (some people claim that just having slightly different tire pressures or unevenly worn treads can be bad for them. I wonder if running significantly different diameter tires on either side of the trailer might result in crabbing and rapidly increased tire wear.

I'm going to run 31's to match my Jeep TJ and the biggest issue I have so far is just the cost. It's about $600 to match the rims and tires to the TV, whereas the cheapy 15 inch trailer wheels and tires from TS are currently about $145 each, or less than half the cost. Wheels and tires have been the single biggest cost on TPCE so far. (Brakes were next on the big $$$ list, and the plywood bill is looking like it could go up past that very easily.)

If you are doing a rear hatch galley, you need to watch your final counter height and under counter face frame suport rail. If your suspension/frame height is too high you will not be able to slide your cooler under the counter without having the counter be too high to be comfortable.

Obviously the tires on the TV do have to match but a miss match on the trailer to get you to the point where you can replace a tire, particularly if the tires are car tires vs trailer tires should not be a problem. If I have a flat on our Subaru I have to disable the Vehicle Dynamic Control by pulling a fuse and the spare goes on the rear. I am very leery of this as the spare is not the same diameter as the tires, (there is not enough room for a full time spare). This is one reason I have AAA including RV coverage.

Look at "Expedition" trailers and vehicles...Huge tires and wheels are the normal and not the exception.... Once you get past sticker shock there is not a problem with big tires and wheels if your rig is designed to have room for them....

As for all the discussion of spares on TV its irrelevant here.... Your trailer has two separate hubs and they rotate freely and independently of each other ( absolutely not computer ride control's) .... You could run two different size tires and IT WILL NOT MATTER other than you trailer may sit a little lopsided.... Only issue is trailer hubs, the have to match stud (hub) pattern of TV and you can either order them or have machine shop drill and replace studs in your current hubs to match TV pattern...

Buck up drop the dollars and get wheels and tires that match TV... That way it will have the "cool" look and people will know TV and TD were build to go together.... Might also consider exterior finish and trim that compliments TV...

+1

I put 31's on mine to match the same rims and tires.
