Joining Mitered Boards

My clamping technique got some good reviews over on my TPCE build thread, so I was encouraged to put a link up here.

Biscuit Joining Mitered Boards

Here's the gist of it, using drywall screws in the edges to give spring clamps something to grab onto. Doesn't pull the boards out of flat like a face block would and the screw holes get eliminated later, or are less obtrusive on the edges.

Hope you enjoy checking it out and perhaps can make it easier for you some day. :D

KC,

Good solution!

Countertop guys often use a similar method, in that they use hot glue to set temporary wood blocks on the finished material to affix clamps to, then pop off the hot glued blocks when the adhesive is cured.
Your screw method looks pretty strong!

Thanks Rob. I forgot to mention that they are fairly short screws, only about 5/8 or 3/4 long. I did predrill and ran them in most of the way so that they would be good and stiff, rather than tending to bend over.

Another option is these, blokkz

But for something glue on the face like this, all you need is a few scraps of plywood and some wood blocks. Glue up a few of these and use on both sides of the joint, left and right and top and bottom (ASCII art in profile)

V - parallel to joint

Those look neat but 25 bucks for two pieces of extruded aluminum and some hunks of neoprene? Sounds a bit steep to me. And if one wanted to do something like a picture frame that is $100. Have to figure out how to make them of wood. I could always weld up some iron but that is to heavy. I can't weld aluminum so my material of choice is wood and I think I just figured out how.
