Hey guys i did a search and didnt find much. I called my local lumber store and was asking about the possibility of buying a 4x10 baltic birch (cause I'm lazy and dont want to splice)

and they said they cant get anything that size only 5x5. He said that the have a wood called shop maple which he said would work the same but are seconds that have a cosmetic blemish or something soo. Since im playing on skinning it in aluminum or painting the exterior. Said for 1/2 it would 60 bucks a sheet. What do you guys think????

Get it, that is a good price. But they do make it in 3/4" which would be my choice.

Don't know what "shop maple" is but you can find MDO in 4'x10' sheets at quality lumber/plwyood places and sign shops that sell to the general public if you just really need something 10' long.

I think this is a cabinet grade plywood. 1/2 inch used in cabinet drawer construction. I bought some shop maple to make some mantles once. Good stuff as it was 11 or 13 ply. Maple veneer on A side, birch on B side. $60 a sheet, I would jump on that.

"Shop grade" refers to what plywood mills produce from "off-fall" in their production process. Shop grade is, typically, an imperfect panel that has at least an 85% usable portion of the panel and will be priced at a 15%, or so, discount. Most "fine" cabinet makers will use it... if they can work-around the defect(s)... for interiors, but not for exteriors.
