Show Me - Door Handles and Latches

Postby KCStudly » Sat Jul 07, 2012 7:57 am

I'm sure there is a big thread somewhere here showing what everyone has done for cabin door locking/latching hardware; from the recessed RV pull paddles, to the sleek retro levers with inside surface mount box latches, to the screen door and residential stuff.

It's time to pick my door latches, so can someone please help direct me to the proper nugget of information, or heck yeah, feel free to post them up here.

Thanks in advance.

Here is what I used. They are sturdy and have a deadbolt. Does require a thick door for mounting.

Those look super nice!!! ...and spendy. Got any more info on them, brand and/or source?

My doors will be about 1-3/4 thick when completed; 1-1/2 frame/foam + 3/16 (or 5 mm) + about 1/16 (a guess) for paint and canvas. I have planned for a 6 x 6 inch block to set the door hardware into, but it is not too late to change that... unless I make those tomorrow.

I used the same locksets as Mark did (Planovet). It's been awhile since I purchased them but I don't remember them being too expensive - about $30-35 each. My doors were about 1-1/4" thick.

Thanks Aggie79 (Tom). Do you know if they are available in a black chrome, smoked, or just plain black? My windows are black "rimless" flush mount and I would like to coordinate.

I have some almost exactly like those, I think it was $40 or so. They had the same design in black, white and chrome at the RV dealer.

I've seen them in black - usually gloss - and white as well as chrome and "brushed". Try googling "Trimark" style RV latches. There is a range of door thicknesses these are compatible with so I'd check that too (can't recall off the top of my head.)

These are available on eBay - http://www.ebay.com/itm/390430759571?ss ... 1423.l2649 - in white, black, or chrome with free shipping. These (or ones similar) are what I used when I build my TD in 2006. They've gone up considerably since then. Think I paid less'n $40 for the pair??

Went with the black. If I recall the max door thickness is inch and half. I lost all the screws and strike plates and so used some left over house door parts. They were in the 30 dollar range as I recall. Real happy with them in black and a lot of keys 3 with each latch.

Well, after reading this thread, I found out I don't have dead bolts on my doors. I guess I'll be ordering a set for myself.

Thanks!

So for everyone running the Trimark paddle style latches (model 060-0251) did you all install one of them upside down? How does that look and do you notice the difference on the inside?

When I called to see about the thicker door version (details in my build thread here - http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=55&t=48630&start=495#p951464) the lady said they were not available in right and left hand versions.

I ordered them, but am now having second thoughts about the aesthetics. Did I get the same model as you guys, or did I mess up?

My latch is not a Trimark but yes one is mounted "upside down".

The only difference in the inside is that the deadbolt latch is on the bottom on one side and on the top on the other. On the outside, the deadbolt lock is on the bottom on one side and on the top on the other.

But you won't even notice it and neither will anyone else.
