Anyone ever try this?

I just picked up 2 gallons for about $70. I stumbled upon it on a surfboard building website. It's listed as a 'table top' epoxy, but I figure if it will work on a surfboard it will probably work on my rimple. It says it doesn't offer much UV protection, but I'm going to paint it anyways. Just wondering if anyone on here had any experience with it.



The product name is Kleer Kote from U.S. Composites; here's part of the writeup from their website:

"Overview:
This product is a 100% solid, two component, clear polymer coating that is mixed at a 1 to 1 ratio by volume. Each kit contains a bottle of resin and a bottle of hardener. The product cures to a clear, high build, glass like finish that resists scratching, yellowing and will not distort with age. Items coated with it will become permanently preserved and protected for your enjoyment throughout a lifetime. This product will not exhibit blushing or sweat out under high humidity conditions."

Kleer Kote is the stuff used on top of bars. You can lay out a pattern with coins or something put a lip around the top and pour the Kote on about 5mm thicker than the items and they will be forever preserved.

CPES is used to penetrate & seal wood (even soft or partially rotted wood). It will penetrate the wood fibers & stabilize it to prevent further deterioration & keep out moisture. It is very thin (water consistency) & a little goes a long way. It does work very well as a wood sealer & base for paint.

I've never used the Kleer Kote but I expect its consistency is considerably thicker & may not penetrate the wood as well. Also don't know how well it'll do applied to a non level surface. Not sure but I think the two products are for entirely different purposes...

Sounds like a perfect description to me.

Good point, Nobody. I'm sure I can find a use for it somewhere. Maybe I'll build a surfboard some day.....

Why not CPES, then Kleer Kote, the spray with U/V resistant paint?

Probably still less expensive than skinning with fiberglass sheets and you can go taller than 48" without seams in your finish. I might have to try that myself!
