i know space and area in the galley is an issue with most folks but i have plenty...at 6'6" wide and 10' long i have lots of room (comparitivly) than most...since i am at the galley design i was wondering or asking for input if it be worth it to build an insulated cabinet area dedicated for a cooler...in otherwords would putting an ice chest inside an insulated cabinet help with food storage or help keep ice

I should think doing so wouldn't hurt at all and it
should have at least some benefit. I'm sure there
is a work-up somewhere of where the cost-benefit
point of doing such is the best, but I think it is a good idea
- period - ,especially if you are using up materials excess
to other areas of the build.

I would think it would have to be a well sealed drawer type compartment to be of any value. Plus the more you open it the less it would do. If it were me I would spend the extra money on a real good cooler. My guess would be if it had some real value someone would be doing it.

Just my 2 cents but...
Depends on where you plan on using your TD.
Here in the cool of the breeze Florida. The sun beating on any surface makes an oven hotter than an EZ bake.
I would think that if you will be in sun that can roast your cookies, and insulated area would be great for keeping the heat away from the cooler. That should mean that it has less work to do as a thermal barrier to keep you stuff cool.

my thought was this would keep it out of direct sun when the galley was open...
