Fender Ideas

After getting quite a shock to find it'd cost nearly $700 to get some KIT repro fenders sent from the US to the UK (And thats without tax OR the actual fender cost) Im now back to the drawing board with fenders.

I love the classic look of the original kit ones and I cant find anything similar here in the UK. My fibreglassing and panel beating skills arent up to much so im drawing a blank.

Im guessing ply fenders skilled in aluminium will just rot out in a few years.

The other idea is car fenders, like the classic beetle (but they are angled wrong)

Any ideas? Id be fitting 14inch wheels.

I know theres a bunch of motorcycle builders in the UK, maybe you could contact some of them and see if they can help you out.

You may have hit the nail on the head there, found this seller on ebay

not exactly the same but good pricing and could probs be adapted to fit a trailer

Have you looked at the rear fenders of a Morris Minor panel or wagon? I have a friend, here in California, that modified a set for his teardrop many, many years ago ... looks great!

CHEERS!

yea you could buy those bad boys and take them to someone who works with sheet metal and I bet they can widen them or do whatever you need. If you try to mod them yourself be VERY careful not to warp them. Basicalkly just tack in 1 place move to another, keep everything cool and take your time

Ditto what Grant said - Morris Minor Traveller rear wings are the best choice. As well as fiberglass reproductions (which is what I would use) you can also get new steel ones shown below, though at about £300 for the pair.

The one thing about them that's lees than ideal is the lump at the front bottom corner where the bottom of the Minor's side panels roll outwards. But if you buy the fiberglass ones, it's isn't a huge job to have that bit removed and smoothed over.

Oh lol well that makes things alot easier! Fiberglass is pretty easy to work with, just alot of sanding.

OK ive took the plunge and bought some Trike classic fenders a bit like this. At £60 for a pair including shipping its worth a gamble

If they turn out to be too hard to modify or dont look right, they'll always come in handy for a future trike project (its in the long line lol!)

There 3ft long and 9inch wide, so they should fit my morris minor wheels well.

Ill post some pics when I get them, mocked up with my wheels

If they end up looking crap, ill try the morris rear wing path
