Bow fronted Teardrop?

Not sure of the technical term but are there any plans on here for a teardrop who's front has kinda been turned on its side so the curve runs left to right rather than up and down?

I'm thinking it would give a little more usable space in the bow

You can find a few in the Hall of Fame that are built the way you described.

Thanks lgboro, I only thought to look in the plans section, still finding my way around.

Camp-Inn builds a model 560 with that design:

Member Irmo Atomics is building a take-off on the 1930s
Airstream Torpedo with that design feature:

A couple others have also done that design feature if I'm
recalling correctly, maybe you'll run across them somehow.

Oh, 'just remembered grant whipp is using the feature on his
build [pg4]:

Here's another recent build journal with it: The Finley T-1:

If you are tempted to combine a round front with a roofline that dips a little, or a lot, to the front, bear in mind that will give you compound angles at the end of any roof beams and a non-square joint between the sides/front and roof. No big problem if you have great woodworking skills and/or a decent set of hand tools but it's one more thing to think about.

And sadly I think the dipping roofline looks really good with a round front, as on this early Airstream trailer:

Here's an example of what anjib was referring to
97290
A compound miter saw, trial and error, lots of extra material, and patience will go a long way to achieving a sloping curve.
A band saw was used to get the angle on the top plate.

More space in the "bow". Is your teardrop gonna be amphibious? Just askin. Will it have bulkheads or walls. Doors or hatches. A ceiling or overhead. A bathroom or head? A floor or deck? Will it be cutter rigged, sloop rigged, ketch, or yawl? "Enquiring minds want to know" (Google this phrase).

Cheers,

Gus

Do you ask this question of every teardrop builder that has a galley?
;-)

Think bow as in curved, not bow as in the opposite of stern but either works.

Nope, I only ask if the trailer is being planned with a bow. Can I think of the front of the trailer as the stem? I don't like to be contrary and think of opposites. If it had a leading edge I might ask if was gonna be wing shaped.

Gus

a "raindrop" is how most refer to it here, also a paddle head (think of the radius on the end of a wooden canoe paddle) would be a sort of flattened raindrop, the curved roof line would be even nicer. My next trailer will be a raindrop as I think it does offer a lot more room for storage/living compared to a tongue box that doesn't add as much storage, and no living space. Camp Inn makes it into a nice bunk for kids/pets.
