Rough Sawn Spars

This may sound like a thick question, but is there any harm in using rough sawn timber for spars as apposed to dressed/planed wood?
Its going to be hidden by the roof sandwich anyway?
Its mile cheaper as well

i took a 2x4 cut it in half and used the smooth sides as my spars. worked fine. i will however next time will be using 1x2 poplar. its more expensice but i like it.

Most rough sawn lumber has considerable unevenness to its surface--warping, twisting, etc.--that would prevent you from having a smooth surface once covered with plywood.

If you have access to a table saw a truing cut would give you smooth straight sides to work with....
