My inspector showed some interest though...

2" ANGLE! Now everyone knows that won't work! You must use no less than 2" X 1/8" square tubing. Anything less is just too weak.

That's 192 pounds of steel.... lol Less than half of that will be in the final trailer.

My utility Trailer is built from 2x3x3/16" angle, The finished 5x10 trailer weighs just under 500lbs...

I learned ALOT building that thing... one of those being that you cannot own too many vice grip clamps. You have no idea how happy I was the first time i hooked that thing up and it pulled straight.

By no means am I a weldor. Pretty much a jack of all trades type. If anyone in the DFW area needs a relatively simple frame welded up, I'm game.

In the drawing it looks like you are going to have a removable tongue. I have a removable tongue on mine, so I have two points you may want to consider if you are planning one too.

Here's a photo that will help explain.



You may want to have the receiver tube protrude a little ways beyond the front crossmember of the trailer. (Mine sticks way out to support the tongue box)

First, this will allow you to pull the pin and remove the tongue without having to reach (or crawl) under the trailer to get to it.

Second, you want somewhere to attach your tongue jack even when your tongue is removed. I missed the second point when I built mine and now I have to lower the front leveling jacks before I can remove the tongue. Not a big deal, but I it's obvious that I didn't think things through as well as I should have.




Anyway, that's just my .02 worth!

In the picture of your trailer there are metal "tabs"? attached to the frame. What are these for? Are they flat peices of metal or angle iron welded on? Just wondering because I need to design a frame for mine and I'm always looking for those little "Extra" Things I can do to make things better. Thanks

I hope you know my comments about the angle iron were just yank'n your chain. I was being facetious because lots of people on here insinuated that angle iron wouldn't work for a frame when I was building mine, but it seems to be just fine. Oh, and it seems to be just fine for the CampInn also.
