Hi, This is chopperJoe, My Question to you is...I have a boat trailer which is about 15" long and 4" wide with a single leaf spring. Do you think I can use this to build a teardrop trailer? This is a GREAT site! Hope to start building in the spring. Thanks for your time. Chopperjoe

Hi Chopperjoe,

Welcome to the forum...

15' x 4'? That's kinda long... But I'll bet you could chop off 7' or so, and make it work.

What kind of a teardrop are you thinking of?

Mike...

Joe several have done just that. Look here for a well documented one.

That's what I did. SOld the boat to help pay for TD materials. Two issues to consider. One is that the axle on mine is a little too far back but didn't think it out very well before I it was too late so my tongue wt is a little higher than most. So you may want to move the axle a little bit. Second is that I had mine reinforced with some additional steel at the weld shop. My trailer was pretty beefy back by the axle but up toward the tongue, there wasn't much support. other than those two things it worked beautifully and I have no regrets at all. good luck :applause:

Hi Chopperjoe,

Can you build on a boat trailer frame? Certainly! That's what I'm doing although it's a tradeoff. I found that it was more work to rebuild my trailer than it would have been to start with raw materials. the boat frame was heavy so my tear frame is heavier than I would have liked.

If you have the trailer, go for it!
