Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Im building a benroy style NO aluminum sides or top. Im interested in using FRP for the roof. Anyone try this? Thoughts? My plan was a thin layer of luan covered by the FRP.

I'm no expert, but from what I understand, the FRP will not hold up to sunlight. It has no UV protection.

Actually I found FRP exterior panels that are UV rated. I found them thru a big rig truck supply store in widths of 102" and however long you need.. Lowes told me the panels they sell usually sold to restaurants and that the sticker says uv rated also. Plus they can be painted once primered etc.

Every time a "Can I use FRP for....." question comes I like to show this example/test.

Have 2 builds with the crane plastics Sequencia panels on them and I love it. Going on 2 years and a soap and water bath and they are brand new again.

Watch out for the dust created by cutting and routering this material I managed to give myself one hell of an eye infection from the dust. Eye protection and a dust mask are a good idea.

I covered mine in Home Depot 4x8 FRP, glued straight to the spars & stapled the edges along the top of the sidewall, which are now hidden by the edge trim. The Home Depot FRP strong enough to attach without luan backer, why add extra steps, material & wieght? I insulated between spars w/sheet foam.
I then did a 400g light sanding of the entire traielr and went nuts with about 8 cans of Krylon Fusion UV Clearcoat. The HD FRP, $28 per 4x8 sheet, was about 1/2 the cost of Filon when I priced it. Csot about another 30-40 in krylon clear. I live in So Cal, have had the trailer in the sun all summer and no probs yet.

What did you use as glue? Think I might use on my camper...

Ive always used PL400 adhesive. Its a waterproof subfloor adhesive. VERY strong and lasts.

I had looked into using FRP as well for exterior but the stuff comes to small to do without many seems.

I then found outdoor vinyl for decks.. that stuff lasts a million years, sold locally at lowes and home depot

What is this outdoor vinyl for decks ? How is it sold ? Size ? sheets ? rolls ? Pricing ?

whats more- they come in all kinds of looks and EVEN have one that looks bubbly identicle to FRP in white or tan and grey

Is it okay to put FRP directly over the framing on the sides, or should I put luan on first? The front, rear, and roof are plywood.
