Okay, I found another thread about this and I do think I will use some keyed entry doorknob/door locks, just like for residential use.
The question is... I was at walmart last night , in the hardware section and noticed kwik set door locks and was just looking around, I've been wondering if this will really be a less expensive option than an RV set.
So I noticed some were Mobile Home keyed entry door knobs and they were cheaper... I didn't have time to look at all the details.. but does anyone know about these? What would be the big difference ?
And it would concern me about the strength and width needed for the door "jamb" ....

Hey, Jules. You'll have to look at the directions on the box to see what thickness of door the knobs are made for. I would say if you are going to use a home or mobile home set, the wall will have to be as thick as the door.

Yeah Jeff... I do need to look at that. From just "looking" I couldnt tell much difference... but being that the set at WalMart, by KwikSet was only about $8 I wonder if the quality of those are 'cheaper' or is there something else different... maybe it's just the mechanism...

Another thing I wondered about was water getting in around the shaft and soaking the core of the door. Not neccessarily rain but the wind driven water when you are pulling the tear down the highway. That was what steered me away from using one. I could be wrong but didn't want to take the chance and ruin my door.

I have seen them used with an extra piece of wood to make up the required thickness. Check out a keyed/locking storm door handle. They are for thinner doors. Have used and they were okay. Make a rubber gasket between handle and door for any type handle/knob and put some grease inside and you should be able to control water.
