1/8" ply supplier

Postby dshideler » Mon Feb 11, 2013 4:04 pm

This has probably been asked a million times but here goes a million and one. I've called every lumber supply around me and I can't find anyone who carries or will order 1/8" plywood. I was wanting to go with a lighter color and was thinking maple. Anyone know where I can get this? Is it cost prohibitive to have it shipped to me? I live in south west Ohio if it makes a difference. Thanks for your help.

Where are you located? Most custom cabinet shops can order Baltic Birch for you in 1/8th " . You may also be able to get door skins from them also. If you live in the Chicago area try OWL hardwoods. They have 5X5 sheets.

I'd try any of the more upgrade type lumber suppliers. Chances are you won't find exactly what you want in a big box store. FWIW....the baltic birch doesn't really give a nice grain appearance when finished natural. It's a great structural type wood, but not a lot of grain flash in the finish. You need to find a veneered type ply, but that's just my opinion. Doug

Did a google on "baltic birch hardwood plywood cincinnati ohio" and came up with: http://www.paxtonwood.com/ they won't be the cheapest, but they will have it. They used to have a place in Des Moines that my dad always bought from.
They list 1/8" 3mm 60"x60" BB/BB Baltic Birch under Sheet Goods: http://www.paxtonwood.com/Cincinnati/download.aspx?filename=cin-oct09.pdf

As soon as I saw Paxton on the google search results list I knew they would have 1/8" as dad got allot of it from their former Des Moines store for cabinetry.

I'm not sure exactly where you are, but every major metropolitan area has at least one hardwood lumber supplier. This is not to be confused with the average lumber yard. A hardwood supplier sells cabinet-grade plywood and hardwood lumber to cabinetmakers, furnituremakers and contractors. Google "hardwood lumber" + your zip code.

Any plywood you buy from them will be better quality than the big-box store and probably a similar price. They should be happy to let you wander around their warehouse and pick out the most suitable sheet goods for your use.
