I took a visit to the big box store today to get some ideas. They had some white vinyl garage door molding that looked promising for a hatch solution. It is very flexible so can handle the curves. One style had a larger piece of weather stripping that might be glued down to the hatch to weather proof the hinge. I thought that would be a good way to seal everything all the way around.

I've dealt with that stuff before. It works good for it's designed purpose. It is a compressed foam type material that don't like to be bent when cold and will break. I had a 16' piece that had been bowed for a while until I got it installed. When I went to straighten it out it snapped in two, and this was in the summer. I use aluminum trim nail to hold it around the garage doors and you have to be careful that the heads don't pull through.
Not sure that I would consider it for TD construction material, IMHO.
