Ok next stage of build is Roof/wall moulding trim. I have searched high and low for it, I would need to order from the U.S , I would get raped by UPS on shipping/duty... So I thought of going with outdoor PVC...Went to Homer Depot last night picked up some PVC trim moulding for windows. So I picked up a piece of 12ft.long at $15 per.length. This stuff is light ,flexible, wont crack so hey give it a try! Comes in white only but is paintable. It cuts nice, drills and countersinks great. So I did a sample piece, had to use table saw to cut the profile I wanted. I did a piece with and without radius edge. The router leaves somewhat of a rougher finish, perhaps maybe two passes would help.... Anyhoo a few pictures posted of a sample and a fitted piece on the front radius of trailer..Let me know what you think. Cheers








Also dimensions of the finished Moulding is 1.6 Wide X .670 High X .200 Wall

Good Idea. How tight of a radius you think it could make?

Thanks, as for radius I have a front radius of 24inches and no problem at all, you could go smaller.....Cheers

PVC sands pretty well; so, you can take care of a lot of the rough stuff with a little sand paper.

Ya I did sand my sample piece, as you said it does sand quite well...Cheers

With some heat it becomes so flexible you could wrap it around a quarter.

Ok added some more moulding pics. I have profile shots of the store bought moulding and of the modified one to what I need. The one profile being square and the other having a radius...The screw caps will go into a counterbored hole. I will put a dab of sealer/caulking in each hole, then tap the cap on....

Just a small suggestion, if you don't mind ... instead of having those white caps sticking up above the molding, why not consider using domed-head counter-sunk stainless steel screws?

Very interesting and unique adaptation of materials! I'm keeping an eye on this thread ... ...!

Hi Grant, You do some nice work I must say....Thanks for looking, yes I like your idea...those caps are hokey but had to check them out. I am thinking whatever looks good, seeing that I am using stainless hardware anyway....why not.

Picture of moulding on the trailer, sorry for the in the garage pic, should be outside.

I'm also considering this product for my build with white fiberglass skin. For those viewing this thread, think it would work to attach the molding to the galley lid, having the piece extend beyond the lid by 1/2", thus leaving a 1/2" gap so the molding could slide over a 1/2" plywood wall? Seems like I would have 1/2" of material to glue/screw to the galley lid, and with some weatherstripping on the inside of the molding, wouldn't I have an adequate seal?

No reason it would not work,it is strong yet light and can be screwed and glued. I would do it and easy to work with also.
