Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I am considering building a 5*9 tear? What would be a better rim size 14" or 15"? Also how about the width of the rim?

Any thoughts?

Dave....whadda want for fenders??? and how heavy a tear do you expect to build?? I took my fenders to Big 0 and told them to give me a tire and wheel combo to fill the fender so it looks good....but I did pick the wheels...the Nascar type black spoker...just what I wanted.... doug

Steel fenders.

That brings up another question - are there any regular steel fenders with sharp 90 degree bend so as to fit flush with the tear?

I have yet to find any that are not rounded over on both outside edges.

Dave...I don't think you will find a formed steel fender with an absolutely Hard 90 degree break on the inside flange..there is going to be some sort of radius.....if that is what you are looking for....if you want to soften that edge....get some fender welting and put it in....if that is what you get...trim the outer edges both front and bottom with a radius...seperates you from all the other formed fenders....just a thought....Doug

Whatever size wheel you use, make sure your wheel and tire combo clear your side walls.

About wheel width, don't go too wide. My wheels are 15 X 7" with 205 X 75 tires and they ride too rough because the wheels are too wide for the tires. Whatever tire size you choose, make shure the wheel width is no wider than the tread of the tire. General rule is the wider the wheel reference the tire, the better the vehicle will handle curves and turns and such, but at the expense of ride.

I found steel fenders with a 90 degree lip on the inside and a nice radius on the outside at Princess Auto (a Canadian chain). They had skids of 'em. $10 each.
I had a couple of 15" tires kicking around and bought rims to fit.

Fulton Wesbar has fenders that have a 90 deg. edge on one side and a nice rounded edge on the other.

Some of the vintage pickup truck rear fenders are made to fit on a flat-sided surface. You'd still want to put some fender welt in there though. I think Road Trip knows of some.

The Goodyear RV tire guide lists appropriate rim widths for each trailer tire size.

Maybe a poor choice of words...radius both the front and back outside edge of the fender at the bottom...everyone else has them square....from the factory....a radius might just dress it up a bit....Doug
