Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I picked up the wood for my T.D. today. I'll be putting down the floor and cutting the sides tomorrow. When I disassembled the old trailer I didn't take note of how far the floor extends beyond the rear most part of the frame . If anyone knows what this distance is I'd sure be glad to hear from you.

Seriously Ok I will take some pictures of my frame and stuff in the a.m. for you. Is there any other areas of concern? Sides? Misc?

Hi.. My main question is does the floor stop right at the end of the frame or does it extend beyond? I don't remember, as I did the disassembly about 3 years ago, then the project got put on hold.

Sorry, Erik, I've got no answers for you, but that picture of the Kit frame is sure worth saving. I'd love to know the height, width and thickness of the frame material, as it demonstrates pretty clearly how little chassis a teardrop really needs.

I like the way the tubular tongue pieces are bolted to the angle or channel frame as soon as they disappear under the trailer body. Maybe this is a 1946 scam - keep the customers happy with 'strong' tube where they can see it, but don't bother wasting money by using it for all the frame!!

Have you not kept the old bits of wood that you stripped off the trailer? Because the position of the bolt holes in the floor and the mounting tabs on the frame would give you your answer.

It looks like 2 3/4" Off the rear of the frame

Yeah, the frame is made of 1x2x3/16 inch channel iron.

Thanks, and that's all that is needed for the foundation of a teardrop and in my opinion most of the strength in a properly built teardrop is in the regidity of the tear cabin itself.

My stock 65 Scad-A-Bout has a 7" overhang behind the end of the trailer, and I restored with the same 7", I guess it allows for more room for the galley.
