Anybody ever cut their aluminum to fit AFTER installation?

I hate to admit it, but my trailer isn't quite square, and I believe my results will be MUCH better if I install my aluminum roof oversized and trim it back to the wall. Am I a fool, or is this common? If common, what tool works best for the cutting?

Thanks

If I were faced with this I'd look into using a flush cutting router bit. One with the bearing on the tip.

That's how I did it. I rough cut the aluminum about an inch oversize and trimmed to fit with a flush cutting bit in the router. Worked a treat, though I'd recommend doing it somewhere where you can contain the mess. It took me weeks to get all the little bits of aluminum off the driveway.

I roughed out the aluminum on the new standy with an electric shear. Then once in place used it to trim the aluminum. I've used the router in the past, but this worked well on the door, windows, and overall profile. Another plus is that I could use it to quickly rough out the side profiles prior to installation. You can pick up an electric one relatively inexpensively at a place like Harbor Freight or some of the discount tool places. They are available in air powered also. It had no problem on the .040 aluminum. Doug
