Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I ordered a slam-type latch for my trailer door from Fastec, and it didn't\\ come with instructions or a template, nor are there any on its website.

It looks just like the one Dean_A has at the link below. Any tips or instructions?

They can be tricky to install.

I would suggest first looking at Planovet's build website:http://littleswissteardrop.com/thesides.html. I used his experience to walk me through my installation of these. You can see my pictures on page 24 of my gallery.

The biggest challenge is keeping the recess for the lockset to a minimum but allowing enough room to maneuver around the shaft while installing the lockset. I'd experiment on some scrap wood before cutting on your door. Instead of a hole for the backset - the part that latches - I cut the opening all the way and used an aluminum bar. That way I didn't have to worry about clearing the shaft on installation.
