fibreglass question?

Postby type82e » Thu Nov 03, 2005 5:07 am

My father inlaw has a caravan that has fibreglass ends on it, and one has a small crack in it I can get a normal polyester repair kit, but would I be able to use epoxy to do the same job?
that way I wont have 90% of the resin left to go off in my shed and I can use the leftover epoxy for my tear

Fiberglass repair

Yes, you can use epoxy resin to repair polyester fiberglass. If your repairing cracks you'll need to add a filler to the epoxy resin as the resin itself is not gap filling, silica also known as cabosil (tradename) would work the best.
Clean out the crack and sand the area around it, I sometimes will "stop drill" the crack before the repair. Wet out the crack with resin/hardner mix, then add filler to your resin mix and fill the area, let it setup and sand as required.
