What is the recommended cure time on Raka Epoxy (no cloth) before applying the spar varnish over it? I'm putting on a last coat of epoxy on some trim parts and want to get the spar varnish on as quickly as possible. What have you experienced? I can't find any posts where it has been addressed. Thanks for the help. Bill

There actually was a recent post where that topic was incorporated in a post about length of dry time. I used Raka and man o war, but due to how we built, it was several months before i varnished. You want to make sure the epoxy has off gased. Contact Raka.

The longer you can wait the better. I have used Raka for years, and I always wait at least a month before applying Pettit Flagship varnish. IMO/ there are only a handful of Spar Varnishes that truly offer UV protection. I suggest you research the subject before committing to applying any finish. Also, you should do a test spot to make sure your chosen coating is compatible with the CURED epoxy.

Raka epoxy also has a epoxy with uv inhibitors in it and it does not blush as some do.

Thanks for the responses and the advice. I have used this combination in the past with excellent results but always had an extended waiting period between the two. I was trying to rush through a small part of the project last weekend when RAKA was closed. As you all suggested, I waited and talked with them on Monday. They suggest 7 days minimum cure time and longer is better although not necessary. I've got too much time and sweat in this project to rush through the end. I am just getting very close an getting impatient. I'm like the cartoon of the two vultures with the caption 'Patience my @$$, I'm going to kill something' As usual, the guidance from this group is always timely and valuable. I used West epoxy with the 207 hardener (non blushing clear) and I only waited 24 hours before sanding and applying my first coat of Flagship 2015 spar varnish. Three months later and not one problem to speak of.
