Help with picking the right gas shocks for my galley

Hi everyone, I'm sick of using the sticks on my galley lid and want to install gas struts. Im asking for help from those that know.
I lifted my hatch belly high and stepped on a scale. After my weight the hatch was 25 pounds. So when I buy them do I get 25 pound struts or should I buy something different like 50, 75 or 100 pound rating? Also can I go to Home depot or Lowes? Do they have them or is someplace better?
Thanks for all the help once again.

Where were you holding the hatch, at the lip? Cause when you move the lift point closer to the hinge it will get heavier.
I bet you can get some at an auto store and rv parts store.

You will want more than the weight just to lift it up, I would go with more than 25# based on your determination on the scales. I would look at 40# struts if I were buying. There are adjustable struts you can get and once you determine what weight will work you then order that size. Sorry I don't have the website anymore for the place but it was an RV parts site.

I used a bed lift kit for mine but it's twice as heavy as yours. Check out www.hatchlift.com they have the struts and more importantly the mounts.
