more newbie questions - buying used radius corner windows

OK, so I'm finding a good number of used radius corner windows on Ebay that say "no trim ring". For example:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/RV-BLACK-TINTED-UP-DOWN-WINDOW-R-O-15-X-15-USED/350943827742?_trksid=p2046732.m2060&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D27%26meid%3D3148525857801934086%26pid%3D100040%26prg%3D1011%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D350943827742%26

So my understanding is the trim ring is just a decorative piece? Or is that the clamping ring? If it's missing, could I fabricate my own trim ring/clamping ring out of, say, plywood? Trying to understand how I might use one of these things, they sure look much nicer than square windows IMHO.

Please forgive me if this is well covered in an existing thread. I really am trying to search for stuff before starting a new thread.

Charles,

Generally the trim ring is used, with screws from it, into a channel on the window to mount it to the trailer.
The screws "clamp" the two parts tight to the wall.

I have seen people drill holes in the outer window frame and surface mount them, but it doesn't look as good/clean, and you still have a rough unfinished look inside.

I bought my moon roof off ebay and it came with trim ring but my roof was too thick and it wouldn't work. I drilled holes through the aluminum outer ring and screwed it into the roof spars through a layer of Butyl tape

I painted the windows opening black to match the color of the windows so it blended in as shown in the picture from inside my teardrop. I finished the opening edges and use an epoxy filler to make it smooth for the paint, so it looked more finished.

While the trim ring look is preferred, not all trim rings fit every thickness of walls. So you need to be sure, even if a trim ring is supplied it will work with a 3/4" wall, or whatever you are using. The only time I used that kind of window, there was no trim ring. I made my cut out for the window as perfect as I could so. In this picture, you can see that I made a trim ring from 1/4" plywood to cover the inside and dress up the window. The round window inside was without a trim ring because it looked fine without. I did screw the windows on the outside trim ring with black screws.

On my LT I had a similar moon roof and it came with a trim ring, but I did not care for the way it pulled the two pieces together although it worked OK. There are others on the market though, I have a set in the for sale section that has holes in the window face that screw directly into the wall with no trim rings, these types of windows you screw into the outer wall and you make a window frame as decor. It is not appropriate to discuss sale items within a thread so please check out my post in the for sale section or PM me if interested.
