hello, can some of you folks advise me whether I should have the hinge on hand before I build the hatch? I'm nearly at the hatch building stage and don't want to build two hatches. Also, please direct me to a topic on how to builod the hatch. I think one has to trace the outlines of exterior ribs. But if I remember, there has to be a "rib" attached to the galley wall?

If you have a good plan, it's nice to have those types of things on hand before you need them... I got my hinge 1 year before I needed it (bad plan)... but it got used, so it's ok..
I try not to buy things too far in advance, but do try to have the items on hand I really will use...... I just built the hatch a year later.

I try to gather all of the hinges and latches before I start. It's nice to have the parts on hand to aid in figuring out how they'll get installed in the final product.

i hightly reccommend that you have it on hand before you build your hatch. i learned the hard way. i build my hatch and then ordered my hing. well when it got here it would not work very light duty for a galley hing. i had to order another. the hing i ordered was a heavy duty. but it had a 1/4" offset. and my hatch was setting there ready for hing. now i got a 1/4" offset hing. had to modify my hatch. it's best to have all your hardware on hand before building.

I cut my sides and built the hatch before ordering the hinge. The hurricane design was changed from 1/4" offset to 0 offset so I had to recut the profile in the hatch area including the aluminum.
Moral of story:
Have your hardware on hand before making any cuts.

Yes! Have the hinge in hand when you build your hatch.

Hey, OPS (official pot stirrer)
Going to try to make it this time. Was planning on it this year but unexpected company from out of state showed up that week.
Didn't you say that this year you were just going to be an observer?

No, that was the last Spamboree a couple of months ago. I'll be at Sweetwwater, Teardrop and all.
Have a good day.
